waist-ed beauty

if you are a returning reader after yesterday's articles, kudos to you! i salute your level of courage and bow before your high tolerance for shocking images. anyway, we shall continue looking as some rather uncomfortable things that done in the name of beauty.

there has always been a perception that girls appear sexier if they have waspish waists and hourglass figures, but the pain and discomfort suffered in the name of sexuality must at times have been truly awful. from ancient times through all kinds of societies, corsets persisted, and still has an impact today, though the garments are now much more user friendly.

a great number of societies considered such garments vital for sexual attraction, tight garments a form of subjugation, which women seemed happy to accept. roman slaves underwent tight lacing, middle-eastern women favoring elaborately decorated tight belts to gain male admiration. as time passed restrictive bodices, of cloth or leather became women's essentials, 15th century ones stiffened with wood, whalebone or even wrought iron, and mother of french king henry iii catherine de medici wanted thirteen inch waists and no larger among female staff.

effect of corsets

many females suffered and died young, because wanting to show off their best sexual assets could hardly have been done in less healthier ways. women in victorian times believed a tiny waist essential for every girl because wanting to be married before reaching twenty-one with a waist measurement similar to their age, was seen as vitally important in society. this meant that corsets were so tightly laced that legs and lower bodies were often permanently numb making fainting commonplace.

that said, madonna was often seen wearing corsets on her world tour and singer alicia keys wears one in the victorian style to spice up her stage act. both britney spears and victoria beckham are often seen on celebrity nights wearing corsets, which are great for accentuating the shape, though many these days feel that these garments should carry health warnings, because they once were practically instruments of torture.

attitudes may have changed today but the appeal of the corset never died completely. hourglass figures still a powerful sexual weapon, fancy corsets readily accepted as sex toys. anything that enhances gratification has a place in society and rightly so, even naturally shapely women made more attractive with that waspish waistline and in the sexual struggle every little helps.

freaky fashion - the conventional

when it comes to halloween fashion, there are the conventions too, the safe outfits (think the fashion world's little black dress). when you don these outfits, people automatically know you are heading to a halloween event and not some themed costume party (although the two have been blurred in recent years). what i did is to group these costumes for easy selection.

the conventional scary

vampires, zombies, devils, mummies, dolls that come alive (think chucky!)... these are the ones who appear at halloween parties every year. strangely, no one really gets sick of them. perhaps they only appear once a year (much like santa) hence people are more than glad to see them and pose with them for pictures.

therefore, if you turn up in a conventional scary outfit, expect some pictures but not too much.

the conventional silly

what constitutes the conventional silly? costumes that get you asking, 'which level of hell did that come from?' when you look at the conventional silly, you know they are hoping that you would laugh with them but unfortunately, you end up laughing at them. either the costume is totally whacked or the person deserves to be whacked!
like seriously, which person in their right frame of mind turns up at a halloween party as a USED sanitary napkin? how is anyone supposed to have decent conversations with something that has been down... there!

talking about down there, the toilet bowl deals with a whole load of crap, we don't need any further public displays. thank you very much. if you went 'so cute' at the picture, you need to be flushed down the pipes too cos that was plain cruelty. would people take pics? you're sure that they would, only because they will need to hold you ransom someday.

if you were planning to go with something totally different, out of this world, a trend setter... remember these wise words: DON'T!

the conventional smash-hit

this has everything to do with what is the biggest movie in the box office or what is in the trends. just think back the last few years when there was potter-mania, twilight fever (the number of edwards, jacobs and bellas) and even x-men. for the conventional smash-hit, when you dress up, you are probably expecting a lot of photo moments and everyone will be raving over you but when you turn up at the party, you will have the sad realisation that your halloween mother actually gave birth to a dozen of you. you will be unique, just like everyone else.

so what's the BIGGEST trend now?

i got to give it to psy's oppa gangnam style, so club owners and party people... prepare to be swarmed by this look this season.

are you thinking?

if you haven't figured out by now... the final day of 'black and white' week is in relation to skin colour and skin care... yes most of us don't have a ton of money to pay from treatments to keep our skin fair and soft (or in some cases, tanned and glowing) but we do need protection from the sun once in a while...

so grab your thinking caps and shield yourself from the sun! of course, caps make a statement too... i personally have a thing for caps... in my car, i have about three caps (two blacks and one coloured)... on days that i just don't feel up to anything... BAM! caps to the rescue... wear it low and cover half your face...

here's my nephew playing with one of my caps... try to figure out what brand it is...

of course, every star has their spread of caps... here are just a couple of them...
