really judges

in the world of reality television, judges come in various form, shapes and sizes. there are those who are experts in their respective fields, some who are there for mere entertainment and of course, the audience play judge for some shows as well. just a side note about audiences as judge, do you notice how when contestants are eliminated from a show (via audience vote), the studio audience seems surprisingly alarmed and shocked at the results? excuse me, the fellow is given the boot because you didn't vote, what's so surprising about that? get a grip yourself.

anyway, here's a look some of my favourite (current and upcoming) judges from reality television!

1) america's next top model: the jays

The Jays

what's not to love about the duo of 'miss j. alexander' and jay manuel?

i was pretty disappointed with the firing and the latest season just seems a little lacklustre. miss j is always quirky and unexpected. jay manuel, with the cool hair colours, is the mentor to the girls. both of them brought a nice balance to the show. well, we can only remember them in images.

2) american idol: nicki minaj and mariah carey

Mariah Carey, Ryan Seacrest & Nicki Minaj

these two have made headlines even before the show is on-air. if you don't know what i'm talking about, here's a clip.

anyway, i'll be watching this duo closely because in terms of body shapes, they are rather similar. both mariah and nicki are curvy so it'll be interesting to see what the stylists present them with.

3) the apprentice: carolyn kepcher and ivanka trump

women in power suits! enough said, haha! personally, i think seeing women talk business on television is a huge source of inspiration for womenfolk especially in asia where many still think that the world of business is primarily for the men.

anyway, beyond the apprentice, both women often go for classic cuts and simple dresses.

really trendy

Kardashians and Jenners: The Trendy Bunch?

it is little wonder that trends come and go. like heidi klum puts it in project runway, 'one day you're in and the next day, you're out!' reality television series have a unique way of creating trends; at times, these trends are deliberate and others, accidental. for this post, let's examine some of the trends that caught on.

1) she bangs

now who can forget the person who start it all? william hung, a contestant on american idol, found fame not as a top singer but as a personality that audiences came to adore. if you forgot who he is, here's a clip to jolt your memory.

anyway, after the 'william hung' craze, the entire trend of 'personalities' surfaced in talent competitions. people started to realise that talent was not as valuable as a unique selling point.

the question was, what was the unique selling point that the masses was craving for? (i hope it's not a pair of yellow trunks or a hoarse-y rendition of 'don't cha') this remains a question that i probably have no answers to.

2) the white tee
i don't know if this can be touted as a trend but it seems like judges (simon cowell and adam levine in particular) made it part of their regular get-up. well the white tee is nothing new to The Online Edition, considering that i have already featured it here. it is interesting to note that, when it comes to clothes, there will always be classic pieces that never go out of style.

3) prints

this is one scary trend that i wish never made it to the screens but it did. i enjoy prints but to see it splashed everywhere is too much of a safari for me. prints should always be in moderation or a fashion afterthought and i blame the following reality stars for making it seem that too much prints is acceptable.

anyway, the trends that made it here are plonked here because the posts for the rest of the week don't have much room for them. my advice for you: do visit The Online Edition regularly over the week and we shall discuss in further detail the fashions of reality television.

i am jennifer holliday

jennifer-yvette holliday (born october 19, 1960, riverside, texas) is an american singer and tony award-winning actress. she started her career on broadway in musicals such as dreamgirls and later became a successful recording artist. she is best known for her debut single, the dreamgirls showstopper and grammy award-winning r&b / pop hit, 'and i am telling you i'm not going'. she is also known as the queen of broadway gospel.

Jennifer Holliday

jennifer holliday's version of the song 'and i am telling you i'm not going' made her a star on broadway and catapulted her to national stardom. her version of the song was enjoyed so much by many fans that holliday was encouraged to transform the song into a hit on the billboard charts. in 1982, a pop version of the song was released as a single. the song became very successful, peaking at number-one on the billboard r&b singles chart and number 22 on the billboard hot 100 in the united states. she continued to have success as a recording artist through the rest of the decade. her follow-up song, 'i am love', became another hit in 1983. holliday's later r&b hits included, 'hard time for lovers' (1985), 'no frills love' (1985), 'heart on the line' (1987), 'i'm on your side' (1991) and 'a woman's got the power' (2000). 'a woman's got the power' charted at number seven in summer of 1999.

however, it recharted the following year, peaking at number one. she continued to appear on the charts throughout the 1990s but never had the same level of success she had in the 1980s. holliday was a featured vocalist on the number one single 'i want to know what love is' by foreigner in 1985. a number of her songs became hits on the us dance charts as well. in fact, a dance version of 'and i am telling you i'm not going' peaked at number six on the hot dance music / club play chart in 2001.

Holliday with Jessica Sanchez

i'm wishing that her clothes are s outstanding as her voice but as you can see from the pictures below, jennifer holliday's clothes are nothing spectacular. she is often in dresses with simple lines and clean designs, nothing fanciful or critique-worthy.

so lay back and just enjoy her voice.

Jennifer Hudson at VH1 Divas

impressed? we're not quite done yet. jennifer hudson has also recently released a clothing line which is described to be 'for women of all shapes, with sizes available from 0 to 26.' (sounds a tad clique if you ask me) anyhow, here's a look at some of the pieces from the clothing line.
